All computers have this device and must have this device to work. On the psu there are some numbers that tells about its capacity. For example if it’s written 350w , it means that the capacity of the psu is 350w. There are psu s like 300,350,400,430,450,500,550….,720w. And also the most important thing about the psu is the differe nces between the qualities of each of them. For example most of the unknown psu s do not have the s ame capacity as it is written. So it is very dangerous to buy an unknown psu and risk your thousand s of dollar hardware. Here are the names of some trustable power supply producers. -Tagan -Enermax -Silverstone -Lc Power -Titan -Be Quiet -DDR Ram Latency After using SDrams (single data) , we are now using DDR (double data) and DDR2 in our systems. And very soon DDR3 will come with more speed. There are 2 main titles at latencies; 1) RAS ( Row Address Strobe ) : The delay , while searching for the wanted file’s row. 2) CAS ( Column Address Strobe ) : The delay , while searching for the wanted file’s column. The longer they are , the slowest machine you will have. And also RAS to CAS is very important too. It shows the time while passing from the row to the column that file at. From the BIOS ,you can see what your latencies are.It should be like 3-3-3or 2-2-2 if you have DDR memories. As you can guess 2- 2-2 is faster than 3-3-3 but normally it is not %50 faster than 3-3-3.But if you change this value to a smaller number , you will see the changes at the programs which uses much system resources. But you can do it only if you have high quality memories. Other wise your system will freeze. Corsair, GSkill, Mushkin, OCG, Bigboy, Geil, Kingston and Twinmos are some good quality memories. -Tweaking the XP Microsoft Windows Xp has many special features that makes reduces at performance while we do not need this features. You can gain some performance by closing some of them.I can advise you Tweak UI, with this little program you can make your Windows more faster than before by changing just 3-4 settings. I will tell here what you must change to get higher performances at windows. Mouse Menu : Change the menu speed to fast. General Menu : Unclick all the boxes. IE Menu : Unclick “show my documents” and “show my pictures” And the for the other settings it depends on your decision. -Defraging the Harddisk Because of every programs, every pictures, every videos shortly everything that you do on you computer makes window’ s performance lower day by day. To prevent this you can do defraging.. Defragmentation makes your files to stay in order. It can be said as tidying your office table. For this process there are many programs and also Windows has one too. But I advise Auslogi cs Disk Defrag. With this program you can defrag your harddisk and gain performance by the percent that the program will say after the defragmentation process. Also the best thing for the program is it does not take hours and hours to finish. Less than 1 hour is enough for 40gb of harddisk. -Controlling the Heat Like all of the electrical machines , the computers make heat while working. And if the heat level is much above the normal, there can be freezes at windows or maybe you can loose some of your hardwares. To prevent this you should have a good quality cooling system. Now the cooling tehnology improves itself day by day. Also cpu and motherboards are improving themselves to prevent heat. For example old cpus were working at 70 degrees but now they just work lower than 40 degrees even with air cooling. Developments at motherboard technologies are ; - fan speed controllers, they calculate the fan speed all the time and show at bios - when the cpu fan stops working , the motherboard switch off the pc automatically - the north bridge has generally a heatsink or heatsink with a fan for cooling more - some of them has heat pipes to prevent heating more And also the case manufacturers are producing cases for preventing the heat more. They use exh aust and cooling fans generally. One of them gives cold air inside the case and the exhaust fan gives the hot air to outside the case. You can design them however you like but do not forget that hot air goes up all the time so the exhaust fan should be at the top of the case. (for example just under the psu) If you use air cooling the best way is to have a fan at the side cover. This side fan should cre ate air flow for the cpu fan. -Which Cooler? Most of the computers are still using air cooling system. But there are also different cool ing systems like water and gas. Cooling by using gas is not a very clever way now because it is extre mely expensive maybe it will be expensive than all your computer so we are passing this system. Air Cooling Air cooling system uses fans and heatsinks. The fan blows cold air to the heatsink at this system and the heatsink which made by copper, silver ,gold or alloy touches the chipset and takes the heat from it. Between the heatsink and the chipset there is thermal paste. This paste has silver in it usually and improves the heat transfer. If you do the cooling setup without this thermal paste , the heat transfer will not be enough. TSM advises you to use Arctic Silver, Zalman and Coollaboratory the rmal paste for it. If you are working on overclocking or you want a high quality air cooler rather than your stock coo ler or IF YOU THINK THAT YOUR COOLERS ARE MAKING A LOT OF NOISE here is the list of some high quality air cooler manufacturers ; - Thermaltake - Coolermaster - Thermalright - Zalman - Titan - ZEROtherm - Artic Cooling - Sycthe They produce the best air cooling fans and heatsinks and their products work at the best performan ce while they cause the lowest noise.. Also you shouldn’t forget that the heatsink is so important at the cooling. And if you buy a heatsink which has heat pipes in it you will have better performance. Water Cooling In the water cooling system ,the system temperature is lower than air cooling so the cool ing is better. But it is more expensive and also the setup is much more complicated than air cooling At water cooling you should have a radiator, pump, fan, water tank and the special liquid mainly. The other parts will be as how you use the cooling system. For example with water cooling sys tem you can cool the cpu, vga chipset, rams, harddisk and north bridge. For each of them you should have a cooling part to connect the pipes. You will connect two pipes to each of them. One is for the cold water and one is for the exhaust (hot water). So the cold water will touch the chipset all the time and it will get cold. Here are some ready sets that you can find in stores ; - Titan Nikita - Titan Bianca - SilverStone External - Thermaltake Bigwater ================================================================================================= This document is written by Burak Giray for TURKSECURITYMASTER.COM users. ======================== Burak GIRAY TSM Administrators Group ========================
